Steps to Functional Writing

Worktext

Writing is a vital communication skill. It is the medium of expressing one’s thoughts and ideas in written form. But imagine a communication sent written illegibly! The receiver will not decipher it and may not respond to it appropriately. The effectiveness of a written communication, therefore, depends to a large extent, on the legibility of one’s handwriting.

Prep – Grade 6

Help students improve their penmanship for them to communicate effectively!

Steps to Functional Writing aims to help students improve their penmanship through a unique teaching plan that outlines a five-step approach: STEPS.

Starting Point: Demonstrating different stroke sequence, students are given a clear and consistent model on how one letter of the alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase, is formed. Questions are asked for visualization and verbalization that make them form imagery of the letter and further promote critical thinking.

Try Out: These are exercises that point the common error in forming a letter together with corrective strategy. Here, the students are asked to form the letter once again, but this time in word form.
